Mark your calendars, because Michael Landsberg is coming to Etobicoke!
On Tuesday, May 6th, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Silverthorn Collegiate Institute will be hosting a free Mental Health Awareness Event — and all members of our community are welcome.
This event is a valuable opportunity for families, caregivers, students, and community members to come together and openly engage around one of the most important topics facing our youth today: mental health.
Why this matters:
Mental health challenges among young people are on the rise, and building awareness, understanding, and access to support has never been more critical. This event aims to foster conversations, reduce stigma, and connect families with trusted mental health resources.
What to expect:
A keynote speech by Michael Landsberg, mental health advocate and former TSN personality, known for his powerful storytelling and advocacy.
Local mental health agencies on-site with information and support.
Resources for students, families, and educators to take home.
Door prizes, coffee and snacks, and a chance to meet others in our community who care deeply about this issue.

This is more than just an event — it's a moment for us to show up for the kids in our community, learn together, and build a stronger, healthier Etobicoke.
Whether you’re a parent/caregiver, a student, an educator, or simply a neighbour who cares, we encourage you to attend and help spread the word.
Want to support the event?
Silverthorn is also looking for local businesses and individuals to contribute:
Donations toward event costs or the new mental health resource area in the school library
Gift cards, items, or services for raffle prizes
Snacks or refreshments for the evening
If you’re able to help, reach out to the school directly at mark.varvas@tdsb.on.ca or if you would like to connect to a parent involved in planning then you can connect via TheEtobicokeVoice@gmail.com
Together, we can build a community that supports every young person’s journey toward well-being.
A quick note from Jennifer 👋
Let’s be real for a second: parenting (or just being part of a kid’s village) in 2025 feels like a lot. The world our young people are growing up in is… different. More connected, more overwhelming, more pressure — and mental health challenges are becoming way too common, way too young.
But here’s the good news: conversations are changing. The stigma is breaking down and events like this one at S.C.I. are how we keep that momentum going — locally, tangibly, face-to-face.
Even if your child seems “fine” — or if you don’t have kids at all — this event is worth your time. You’ll learn something. You’ll meet people who care. And maybe, just maybe, you'll leave feeling a little more hopeful.
I’ll be there — not just as your friendly neighbourhood newsletter writer, but also as a Silverthorn School Council Parent Rep. So come say hi!
Let’s show our young people that their mental health matters — and that their community is right here for them. 💬💛
