Just a quick update today as I want to give a shout out to a local central Etobicoke high school that will be holding an all day event this week to raise much needed funds for the Canadian Cancer Society.
The annual Relay For Life in communities is an event many of us have heard of where groups come together in local parks and other public outdoor spaces in many places throughout Canada each June. As per the website the event has teams “walking around a track or path to symbolise the perseverance and action needed to change the future of Canada”. What is really nice about this program is that secondary schools can hold their own Relay For Life to help raise much needed funds, remember family and friends who have had to battle this horrible disease, and celebrate those who have overcome a cancer diagnoses. The event helps the cancer society raise money for research at the same time teaching our next generation the importance of helping others.
This is the first time that events have been in person since 2019 and Silverthorn CI is excited to be able to hold the event once again. The school has been involved for many years and normally they would hold a relay every other year. A team of hardworking students along with the help of a small group of dedicated teachers began preparing in late fall and this Thursday (May 11) they will see the event through to completion.
Teams of students, staff, and local community members will commit to having members walking the SCI track from 10am to 10pm and the community is invited to stop by anytime during the day! The students at the school who are not taking place will be able to take part in a BBQ lunch and other outdoor treats over the lunch hour and there will be a stage with entertainment throughout the day.
If you live in the area and would like to do something fun this Thursday night consider stopping by to help support the students and all the work they have put into this event!

Tomorrow is the start of the May Toronto City Council Meeting and once again the agenda is a long one with some additional items that were held from the last meeting. The next three days will see council discussing everything from the fate of the Gardiner East, shopping malls who want to open on stat holidays, the ability to drive or not to drive into High Park, to the fate of Hen’s living in backyard’s inside the city limits. It will be a long three days but I will report back on what you need to know once things wrap up!
If you have any questions or concerns about what you hear about coming out of these meetings or if you would just like to know more about a specific issue leave me a comment and I will follow up!
