As a friendly reminder tonight in Ward 2 there will be a public consultation at Etobicoke CI hosted by Councillor Holyday to discuss the inclusion of local roads in the city’s cycle lane plans for 2024 to 2027 (staring at 6:30 pm). The potential lanes span across the entire ward, aiming to enhance the safety of active transportation for residents. The infrastructure could play a vital role in reducing speed and traffic density on major streets that currently resemble highways, especially those in close proximity to schools. Crossing these streets has become perilous for pedestrians even during daylight hours.
As these discussions unfold, it's essential to acknowledge that many community members have sought assistance for these issues over the years. Traffic congestion is a prevalent concern raised at local school councils, with a shared desire to explore solutions that encourage more students to walk to school rather than rely on driving. The recurring problem of traffic jams in front of local schools extends beyond individual institutions, necessitating collective efforts to bring about change.
In light of these challenges, I am pleased to announce (let me disclose here that I am a founding member of ECCIN) the launch of the Road Safety Working Group by the Etobicoke-Centre Community Impact Network. Additionally, a working group will be formed to facilitate connections between the community and local school councils.
Details for each group are provided below.
If you are interested in joining either or both groups, please send a quick email to ecciNetwork@gmail.com. I will add you to the list and provide more information in a welcome email next week. Your participation is very welcomed as the more voices we have, the more impactful our efforts will be!
