Returning From A Short Break
(and what is going to go on from here)
Hello to everyone and a special welcome to all my new subscribers who have joined our community since my short break began! I cannot believe how we have continued to grow over the past month and I am excited to report we are so close to 100! Perhaps a giveaway is coming in the near future … just a thought!
I really am so happy that you all have taken the time to join me as I walk readers through Etobicoke with my eyes as a life long resident. I just want everyone to know more about this great area and that there is so much more than what you hear about us in the media, which honestly is not very much. I also am excited that as we move forward that this space is becoming a great platform to work on building community and getting the word out about great places, businesses, events, and causes to support that are located right here in our neighbourhoods.
But of course as we all know, there is another election coming soon in this city that as we all know was so unexpected! I am not going to rehash the incident in these pages but I will most definitely follow the progress of the election! I plan to look at the issues that matter to Etobicoke residents, highlight the candidates (which with the amount expected on the ballot may become a full time job on it own), and keep you all updated on the latest as the days go on. I may even have some challenges to send out to candidates so keep an eye out and lets see who is willing to take part and connect!
My plan going forward once the city opens up candidate registration on April 3 is for The Etobicoke Voice to start to go out to subscribers twice a week until the election which is expected to occur on June 26 (which will be decided for sure by City Council next week during the regularly scheduled monthly meeting.
If you have any questions for candidates, issues you would like more information about, or anything else specific to the election please let me know by March 31 so that I can fit it into my election pre-planning! If something comes up later than that please still reach out and I will try and fit in any requests that come my way. You can leave a comment here or send me an email at TheEtobicokeVoice@gmail.com .
Later this week I will have a proper issue for you but for now I just wanted to say hello and thank you all for sticking with me while I took a bit of a longer March Break!
But until then let me keep you up to date with a couple of things going on in Etobicoke this week.
Coming Up March 20 - 26
Wed. March 22 - Eatonville Library 430 Burnhamthorpe Rd - 9am to 12pm
Drop in to meet Ward 3 City Councillor Amber Morley. If you have issues to discuss you can do so with the Councillor Morley and her team as she is starting monthly drop in sessions. While the library is in Ward 2 it is just a couple of blocks from the ward boarder and so it is still a very good place to meet residents who live in the north end of that ward. For those of us in the south of Ward 2, why not pop in and say hello too!
Ongoing Until March 30 - City of Toronto Resident Survey
Take part in a Survey to share your thoughts on 6 shortlisted proposals for art that will eventually be part of the atrium in the new Etobicoke Civic Centre
Enjoy what is turning out to be a beautiful day to welcome spring to our city!
