One Year Later: A Rally for Truth and a Future We Can Touch
It’s been one year since a moment of political theatre sent shock waves across the city. On June 21, 2024, Premier Doug Ford announced—without evidence—that the roof of the Ontario Science Centre was “falling in.” The message was clear: this beloved institution, long cherished by generations of Ontarians, was no longer safe.
Twelve months later, that narrative hasn’t held up. No engineering reports confirmed a crisis. No emergency repairs were attempted. Instead, doors were locked, staff were displaced, and one of the few truly public, accessible, and educational spaces in this province was left to gather dust. Oh, and remember when Ontario residents were told that heavy snow could possibly cause a roof collapse, after one of the snowiest winters in decades - the roof is still holding.
But the story isn’t over—and the community is writing the next chapter.
This Sunday, June 22, advocates, educators, students, and neighbours will gather at Christie Pits Park to mark the anniversary not with grief, but with renewed energy. Organized by the Save OSC campaign, the rally will call for transparency, restoration, and a real plan to reopen the Ontario Science Centre—not a land deal, not a condo brochure, but a future our kids can walk into.
Sunday, June 22nd
11:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Christie Pits Park (750 Bloor Street West)
Christie Station is your best TTC option
The lineup of speakers includes longtime science centre fans, passionate educators, and the very students this closure has most affected.
Their message is simple: A public science centre should not be a political pawn.
Bring your signs, your stories, and your sense of wonder. And if you grew up pressing buttons and peering through telescopes at the OSC, know this: the fight isn’t just about a building. It’s about the kind of province we want to live in—one where public knowledge is sacred, and truth isn’t buried under spin.
Everyone is welcome. Because the Ontario Science Centre was built for all of us.
